Our Story

Why Elco?

With a philosophy of providing a competitive price and unequalled service to farmers, Elco Direct has established an extensive and loyal customer base throughout the North Island. There are no added costs for freight, market development or brokers

The Bremworth ownership provides a steady demand for wool for its carpet making businesses. Long-standing relationships with other wool exporters in New Zealand mean that we buy wool with an end-user already identified.

Elco Direct has built long-standing and trusted relationships with its farmer clients because of its excellent service and competitive pricing. Its value-add services include wool pick-up and wool shed clean-outs plus taking everything from the main clip to oddments and dags - it operates a large, modern dag-crushing facility.

We sell new and used woolpacks, and also provide bale clips.

Backed by an incredibly experienced team of buyers and store staff, Elco Direct offers a knowledgeable, friendly and prompt service for all its clients.

Our Grower Clients

At Elco Direct, we’re proud to partner with New Zealand’s finest wool growers. By partnering with local growers, we celebrate Kiwi craftsmanship, support rural communities, and ensure every fibre is natural, renewable, and traceable.

These dedicated farmers combine generations of knowledge with a deep respect for their land and animals, producing premium-quality wool that’s both natural and sustainable.

Andrew & Meredith Carpenter

Ruanui Station
Elco Direct is proud to have a longstanding relationship with the Carpenters from Ruanui Station. Nestled in the rolling hills west of Taihape, Ruanui Station boasts a stunning view of Mount Ruapehu. Perched at an elevation of 550 meters, this expansive farm benefits from the fertile volcanic soils of the plateau, contributing to the superior quality of their wool. Ruanui Station also uses the wool they grow to create a range of luxurious wool products, from throws to pet beds and clothing.

In Rex's own words, it is all he has ever wanted to do. Despite spending his entire life farming Rex still loves getting up early in the morning, breaking daylight and start mustering sheep for him this is why he started farming.
